AI Engineer – Build the Future of AI at Orion
We have an exciting opportunity for an AI Engineer to join The Orion Group, a growing market-leading business known for its collaborative culture, strong reputation, and commitment to innovation.
Based in our Norwest office (just a short walk from Norwest Metro) or Sydney CBD, this role offers the chance to work across a variety of projects within a supportive, high-performing team environment, while delivering real impact across the business.
Orion is establishing a structured AI function to improve productivity, reduce project administration, and deliver clearer, more consistent transparency for our clients. This role sits at the centre of that vision.
We are seeking a mid–senior AI Engineer / AI Solutions Lead to take ownership of AI solution design and delivery across the business. This is a rare opportunity to build and shape AI capability from the ground up, forming the foundation of Orion’s long-term AI strategy.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role, suited to someone who enjoys working closely with the business to solve real problems and scale practical, high-impact solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Design and implement AI solutions that drive measurable productivity improvements
- Work closely with leaders and project teams to identify inefficiencies and deliver practical outcomes
- Build, test, and scale AI tools and workflows across the organisation
- Contribute to how AI is embedded, governed, and adopted across the business

Responsibilities
AI solution design and delivery
- Design and develop AI-enabled solutions that improve productivity and reduce manual administration.
- Build, test, and refine prompts and workflows for tools such as Microsoft Copilot.
- Assess existing platforms, automation tools, or software before proposing custom solutions.
- Develop prototypes and pilot initiatives, then support broader rollout.
Business engagement
- Partner with AI Champions in each Business Unit to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Analyse workflows, systems, and data flows across project delivery and support functions.
- Propose practical, scalable solutions aligned with business priorities.
Implementation and scaling
- Support deployment of AI tools and workflows across teams.
- Assist with integration into existing systems where appropriate.
- Define and track success metrics such as time saved, accuracy, adoption, and operational impact.
Change and capability uplift
- Support training and adoption of AI tools across the organisation.
- Develop guidance, templates, and best-practice standards for AI usage.
- Build confidence and understanding of AI across technical and non-technical teams.
Client transparency initiatives
- Contribute to AI-enabled client reporting, dashboards, and automated updates.
- Improve consistency and visibility of project information across the client lifecycle.
Governance and responsible AI
- Work within governance frameworks covering data privacy, security, and AI risk.
- Support compliant, ethical, and secure use of AI aligned with organisational risk appetite.
Growth opportunity
- This role is designed to grow with the organisation. As AI adoption scales, responsibilities may expand to include:
- Ownership of Orion’s AI roadmap and prioritisation framework
- Leadership of the AI Champions network
- Oversight of AI governance and standards
What we’re looking for
Experience
- Experience in applied AI, prompt engineering, automation, or AI-enabled solution design.
- Hands-on exposure to Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, or similar productivity-focused AI tools.
- Experience working across business functions to design and implement operational solutions.
- Coding and software development experience valued.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain AI concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
