Senior Flood Engineer
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Flood Engineer to join our Brisbane team. Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of flood studies, floodplain management plans and risk assessments, ensuring clear communication of flood impacts, regulatory compliance and upstream/downstream development considerations.
- Coordinate projects across multidisciplinary teams, managing milestones, budgets and invoicing to ensure timely, commercially viable delivery.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, including clients, consultants, subcontractors and authorities, ensuring high-quality outcomes aligned with client expectations.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior engineers while fostering collaboration and engagement across project teams.
- Apply sound engineering judgement, creativity and foresight to proactively resolve complex design challenges and maintain high technical standards.
- Contribute to business growth and continuous improvement through preparation of fee proposals and variations, enhancement of engineering standards, and adherence to Orion Group’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
Skills and Expertise
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, with RPEQ accreditation desirable.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in civil engineering and flood management projects, with exposure to residential subdivision design (earthworks, roads, drainage, water and sewer) highly regarded.
- Strong technical proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modelling and GIS workflows, including TUFLOW, RORB/WBNM, HEC-RAS and DRAINS, with stormwater modelling experience desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding of local government and State approval processes, with sound knowledge of Australian Standards and LGA road and drainage design principles.
- Proven project and client management capability, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
