We were back for our third year, contributing to the future of STEM in a fun-filled day at the Sydney Science Park STEM School Challenge, organised by CelestinoDevelopments.
As gold sponsors of the event, we hosted a ‘Transport and Mobility’ station where team members Ryan and Emma engaged with the students in STEM activities, with a particular focus on road design.
The students worked in teams to determine the best place to build a road on a provided map. A key consideration in their planning was the land's topography, including factors such as:
- Steep slopes
- Hills and fill in valleys
- Water drainage
They learned to interpret contour lines and shading to help them with their decision making.
“It was great to hear the students' ideas and their perspectives as they worked through the activity.” - Emma
